Southie Showdown Re-Cap

This past weekend, myself, Conner W., and Cooper M. competed in the 4th annual Southie Showdown.  Hosted by CrossFit Southie, this two-day competition featured over 275 athletes from all over New England, in both RX and Scaled divisions.  Every athlete completed 5 workouts over the course of the weekend, with a final event for the top-8 RX Men and Women. The workouts included a 1-RM Snatch complex, a short burner of Rowing, Double Unders, and Burpees, and a brutal 8-minute AMRAP of heavy Thrusters, Chest-to-Bar Pull-ups, and Bar Muscle-Ups.  Conner and Cooper both displayed what I think is a hallmark of Full Rangers: great technique and movement mechanics.  While the intensity level definitely gets turned up a notch once prizes and place-rankings come into play, Alecia and I would both like to say that we are proud of the standards set by our athletes and their integrity in regards to good, efficient movement. Furthermore, in competitions such as these, there can be a lot of variation from judge to judge regarding what constitutes a good rep versus a no-rep.  None of our athletes let themselves get caught up or frustrated by a mistaken call.  In fact, Conner (who was the recipient of one such call) went out of his way to go and talk to the judge afterward, and show her his appreciation.Overall, the competition was extremely well-run, and we would like to send out a thank you to CrossFit Southie, their staff, and all of the volunteers that helped judge and set up.  With almost 300 competitors, keeping things running smoothly and on-time is an extremely impressive feat.We would also like to send a huge thanks to everyone that came out to watch and support.  You guys are the best, and your presence was definitely felt (especially around the 20th rep of that last set of KB Swings).  Also a big congrats to Cooper on his second podium finish in his second competition, and Conner for a great showing in his first ever individual competition.IMG_8879Final Results:Cooper M.- 2nd Place Men's Scaled DivisionConner W. - 17th Place, Men's RX DivisionMe (Coach ACM) - 26th Place, Men's RX Division
