For some this will be your first open.
If so, then these next five Friday nights will be incredible. No, seriously. Hitting each week’s workout with all of your gym friends is an experience to be had. The motivation and support from your peers can electrify you! You WILL surprise yourself every week. Everyone pushes harder, goes longer, and crushes their perceived limits in this environment!
No matter how long you've been with the gym, the Open is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself.
For some this will be your ____ open.
If so, then keep in mind a few things over these next five weeks:
You've done the work.
At this point in the year, there is no getting fitter or stronger. You have trained, mobilized, ate, and slept well all throughout the past 11 months. The body of work has been laid down, and now it is time to show up on Friday nights.
Show Up.
If your goal is to improve upon last years scores, then realize that the next 5 Friday nights will each be "game day". On game day, excuses go out the window, along with pain and fear. Know/expect that you'll experience adverse situations, pain, and fear, but you also know that you CAN manage them, and crush the workout.
Trust Yourself.
Again, you've done the work. You show up. So, when the 3-2-1 GO happens, trust yourself to know your pace and perform at YOUR best. Don't second guess yourself. Just send it.
Control what YOU can.
You can’t control all the other people in the world, their training, their nutrition, their effort, pain tolerance, will, heart, etc... You are only in control of what you’ve done in the last 11 months, and what you do for the next five weeks. So, control what is in your circle of contro,l and don't count on any outcome i.e "I want to improve 100 places." Just do all the things that you can to get the best from yourself.
HAVE FUN.
That's it. Show up Friday night, and enjoy the experience.
