How to Register for the 2023 Open at Full Range
The Open is upon us once again, with the first workout being released two weeks from today, on February 16th.
If you haven’t been around for it in the past, the Open is an annual, worldwide, online competition, hosted by the folks who run the CrossFit Games. It consists of three workouts over the course of three weeks, all of which completed at the gym, testing various aspects of strength and fitness.
While the Open is not for everyone, it is a great opportunity to test your fitness, push yourself, and have fun with your fellow Full Rangers!
Here is what you need to know if you want to get involved:
How do I register?
Head to open.crossfit.com and sign into your account (if you’ve registered for the Open in the past), or create a new account. From here, you’ll be asked some demographic information, as well as where you workout. For the purposes of the Open, you’ll select “Full Range CrossFit” as your affiliate. The cost to compete is $20.
If you know that you are planning on participating this year, please sign up as soon as possible, so that we can have an idea of how many people we will be taking part.
When do I complete the workouts?
Over the course of three weeks (starting February 16th), a workout will be released on Thursday at 8pm. You will have until the following Monday at 8pm to complete the workout, and submit your score. Your workout MUST be completed in the presence of a judge (more on that below), who will verify your score.
As in years past, we will be hosting our “Friday Night Lights” events each week of the Open, starting at 6pm. Here, we will run multiple heats of the workout, with judges for scoring (and spectators for cheering!). All are welcome and encouraged to attend, regardless of whether or not you are competing!
What if I can’t do ______ (fill in any movement or weight)?
The Open has numerous levels, including “RX” (advanced), “Scaled” (intermediate), and “Foundations” (beginner). These, along with age group categories, provide ample opportunities for individuals of all abilities to compete against others that are at their level.
Are there prizes?
Not really — but it certainly feels good to know that you gave your all, doesn’t it?
The Open is all about personal achievement, pushing your limits, and creating a supportive environment for others to reach their potential. And fist bumps. Lots of fist bumps.
Also, those that finish in the top 10% will move on to the next stage, the CrossFit Game Quarterfinals, which is awesome to watch happen (last year, Full Range had 9 people make it through to this phase!)
